I thought it only be fitting for me to share with you all that I auditioned for America’s Got Talent yesterday, November 9th, as a spoken word artist. It’s been a long journey since I first began this blog last October, purchased my domain for EverythingShaquana.com last November, and launched the website in April and so much as happened, changed and evolved since.
I’ve grown so much as a spirit, a person, and a writer, and soooo much of that growth has come directly as result of my commitment to this website. Moreover, the evolution of my writing, poetry and spoken word career has been directly impacted by the dedication, love and critism I’ve received from all of you!
In such, I’ve graduated to the level of pursuing all of my gifts and passions wholeheartedly. For far too long, I hid behind my abilities to transform the deepest thoughts, secrets and testaments of the heart, into written words. I shied away from my passion for converting the most terrible aches and insatiable desires of my being into poetry for other’s eyes. As my need for speaking that poetry out loud expanded and compounded, I grew more intimidated by what I felt I was actually being called to do.
I’ve come a long way with gaining and sustaining confidence, courage and commitment as a poet and spoken word artist. That’s why the encouragement and feedback I’ve gained from all of the beautiful and troubled souls I’ve encountered by means of this blog, social media and random luck, is soo fundamentally important to me. It’s been greatly instrumental in guiding me toward all I know that I’m meant to be. Starting with writing, then expanding into poetry and performing spoken word.
Yesterday, during my first experience auditioning for a televised competition, I crossed a bridge. I made a turn in the fork in the road. I finalized and fortified a decision. When I auditioned for America’s Got Talent yesterday, I truthfully and wholly became EssentiallyUnique, the spoken word artist aiming to uplift the world with love, through my words and my story.
And so, the next chapter of my writing saga begins. So, wish me luck as I trail this edge of my path in my commitment to building my empire by way of poetry and spoken word! Stay tuned!
